The importance of invisible thought bubbles

I'll probably be saying farewell to the Sunday Funday video segments. I am no longer an internet-user at home. I gave it up to save moolah. Plus, I got rid of my smart phone and got a dumb one instead. The dumb phone is cool but I am having issues with getting used to using it. Yesterday at work it starting ringing LOUDLY and I didn't realize it was my phone, of course, because the ring tone is so different from what I'm used to. So, it's blaring like crazy and I'm sitting there looking around the room thinking a few things to myself in this order:
"Huh, interesting ring tone."
"I wonder who's phone that is? I guess they left their desk..."
"That's loud."
and finally:
"OMIGAWD. That's ME." Commence panicked shuffling around in black hole of purse and fiddling with new phone and missing call entirely.

Later on there was a repeat of this thought process/office entertainment when the text message alarm went off. Sigh. Seriously. Technology and I aren't really compatible. It's a forced kind of relationship most days. In this way, I don't miss the internet at home. It's kind of nice to not have it. So far, anyway. Plus, I have it at all jobs and school and coffee shops, etc.

A facilities guy was apparently supposed to do something on the roof of the museum today but has to re-schedule and he came in earlier to give that message to someone and he had a Scottish accent. And it was awesome. It reminded me of Shrek and my immediate thought was, "This is a fantastic example of why we're blessed to not have thought bubbles above our heads broadcasting our thoughts." I mean, there are a million other examples every day, too. But I wonder how the Scots feel about having Americans connect them with ogres now. Maybe they're happy with it. Shrek is pretty awesome, after all.

Also! Good news! My cousin Shannon had a baby. This is more exciting than I'm probably conveying very well here. (A few more exclamation points wouldn't be remiss [!!!!]). The family hasn't had a new baby in quite a while. It's a boy named Austen Lee. He was due May 19th, but neither me or my Dad had heard anything about him, and I had finals on the weekend of the baby shower in St. Louis, so I missed out on seeing her at all. Baby Austen was born 2 weeks beforehand, which puts him very close to my birthday! Wooot for May babies. It's one of my cousins on my mom's side of the family and, admittedly, we're not that fabulous at keeping tabs on each other, but this is such a big deal that I was thinking we'd do better at checking in/keeping up with it than we have. It took some time trying to get word that Austen was here and everything was fine, but: Dad finally got word and passed it on that Austin's here and everything's fine!
