I found a website more narcissistic than Facebook or Blogger, if you can believe it.

Man, listening to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" record with the window open and some rain falling is kind of spectacular. This is turning into a good Friday night at home.

Beware. I've discovered a virtual makeover site. Oh, help. I'm having too much fun with it. Since I'm already in the mood for a look-change, I've spent hours today trying different hairstyles and hair colors on my head on the internet. I'm not proud of the way I've spent much of my day... But, it is helping me to get a better understanding of what I want my hair to look like as it grows out. Plus, it also is letting me put crazy hairdos on and laugh. So, maybe you've tried these sites before, maybe you haven't. The gist is this: you get your hair out of your face and take a picture, upload it to the website, and do some 'here's my eye' kind of specifications, and then you're free to slap tons of hairdos on yourself for as long as you want. And as you continue to try on different hairdos, you start to realize that sometimes what you thought looked okay, kind of looks awful or at least, doesn't nearly suit you as much as you thought, and some things that you would never have really tried in real life look actually okay. Of course, it's all digital and the real-deal probably won't look the same. The pictures of the hairdos are from celebrities who had real stylists doing their 'dos. But, I figured, okay: so, these are professionally styled hairdos and they look this terrible on my head... it would be a hot mess if I ever tried it myself and got it cut in this manner. But, that didn't stop me from trying on some doozies.

Like bright red (I actually like this color, but I couldn't get it without bleaching my hair out and then re-dying it. It would be kind of a frustrating process for me, especially if it didn't turn out quite right.):

Or I could do bleach and red and get that lovely hot pink color ala Lady Gaga!:
Or, for those pesky times when you find yourself stuck in the Swiss Alps yodeling and goat-herding, there's the contemporary Heidi hairstyle:
Okay, enough with the crazy ones. Actually, the thing was helpful in finding what I'm wanting to actually go for with this growth spurt. These are actually the same haircut, just up and down. I prefer the up one, and I don't even know if my hair can really get this long by Christmas, but I'm going for it.:

Anyway, this is what I've been spending too much of my day doing. How narcissistic, I know. It gets pretty boring after a while.

I've been reading, too. It's nice to have books to read that I actually want to read. And I'm planning to try to learn Spanish. A lot of the job openings I'm seeing are preferring applicants who speak Spanish. So, okay. I'll give it a go. I haven't taken Spanish since high school, but Italian and Spanish are super similar. I expect I'll end up speaking a hybrid of the two, actually. That'll add some fun to the library experience.

Otherwise, I'm in a weird phase. I've broken a lot of things lately. My awesome record player/radio that gets the best reception now gets zero reception except a country station on the AM dial. Boo. I broke that earlier this week. It might just have something to do with the humidity and I might be able to somehow fix it. I don't really know how I broke it, which is the aggravating part. But hopefully I can figure something out, otherwise, there goes my baseball listening plans for a while. Then my trusty computer broke. But, after a couple of hours, it hobbled back to it's working self. It has spasms of panic attacks, but usually it can pull itself together enough to just get through an hour or so of use. It's not really that old. I need it to continue working for a while. So, electronics aren't really working for me lately, but it's even worse than that: I've even broken my bed. The bed itself was kind of an issue to begin with. The house broke my bed when I moved in, so I could say that I've now merely finished it off. The staircase in my home is too narrow to allow bedsprings larger than a twin bed to go up. A fun fact about old houses: narrow stairwells. So, the bedsprings to my bed were donated to a better place when I moved into the house. If you work really hard, and don't mind scraping the paint off the walls of the stairwell, it is possible to squeeze a larger mattress up the steps...so we did. But the bed I have is a really old one with the wooden bed slats that sit in the old wooden frame. The frame is an odd size too, so the mattress and bed springs never quite fit it exactly. But now the mattress sits directly on top of the wooden slats, and having held up for nearly two years, one of the slats finally gave in and broke last week, much to my surprise. Iris' too because she likes to hide under the bed and now there's this broken slat there that she bumps into. I plan to visit Lowe's and get a new one cut and fix it all up. I will be happy to have a bed with bedsprings again someday. You don't realize how much you miss that until you don't have it. Sleeping on wooden planks is not really that fabulous. A fluffy mattress still can't hide the fact that you really have zero support. I'd probably be better if I just put the mattress on the floor and took the bed frame apart completely and put it in storage or something. I'd look like a squatter in my old house with the mattress on the floor. Sigh. So, basically, I have a barely working computer, a non-working awesome radio, and a broken bed. But, the weather is cooling down again, and the windows are open (which, I've not broken yet), so life is feeling nice, despite this phase.
